Who built this
QuillAtlas is built and edited by Gyorgy Bolyki, a Watford-based developer. It operates under Magrathean UK Ltd.
The project started because aggregator sites — Google Maps, TripAdvisor, Yell — reward volume and paid placement over editorial judgement. Reviews are gamed. Listings are bought. There is no published methodology behind what's included or why. QuillAtlas is an attempt to fix that, one town at a time.
What QuillAtlas is
- An editorially independent local directory. Every listing is human-visited or directly verified before it appears.
- Review summaries are AI-synthesised but human-reviewed. An AI model reads the public review corpus and produces a structured summary. The editor reads and approves every summary before publication.
- No paid placements. Ever.If a venue pays us money, they don't get listed differently from anyone else. Phase 1 takes no money for listings at all.
- Starting scope: Watford food and coffee. Independent cafés, restaurants, bakeries, and specialist food shops in WD postcodes. Chains are out of scope.
The trust posture
- Named owner. Gyorgy Bolyki is the sole editor and signs off on every listing. No anonymous moderation.
- Transparent methodology. The full vetting and synthesis process is published at quillatlas.uk/methodology/.
- Audit trail.Vetting date and reviewer are shown on every listing. Review summaries carry a "last refreshed" date and source count.
- Not anonymous. Not a scraper. Not an aggregator. This is a curated directory with a named human accountable for every entry.
